3 Tips to Reach Your Audience with Email Marketing

Email is still one of the most effective marketing tools because it’s the only tool that allows you to push your message directly in front of the people who have asked for it. Once you’ve worked on building your permission-based email marketing lists, you’re ready to start delivering interesting and relevant email content to your subscribers. Take note of these three tips for email marketing success.

Craft a Catchy Subject Line
How many times have you received an email and immediately clicked “delete” because you saw a boring or irrelevant subject line? Your subject line is the first thing they see whenever you send an email, so it needs to be compelling enough to incite a click to open. Questions, numbered lists, hot topics or another eye-catching phrases will encourage opens. After all, if you aren’t able to reach subscribers with your subject line, you won’t be able to get them to read your content, no matter how good it is.

Clean and Clear Design
Your newsletter design should be simple and free of clutter. More isn’t always better. Almost half of emails today are read on a smart device. 1-2 articles and a few quick links can be more effective. If you try to incorporate too many elements into your emails, people will get overwhelmed and stop reading. Decide what your newsletter goals are, and reach them with a one- or two-column layout. Don’t include a lot of text. Rather, create short teasers with headlines so people can quickly scan and click to read more. This will help drive traffic to your website (assuming that is where the content is posted) and give you and indication of interests from your reader list.

Don’t forget to make sure that your audience is clear about who your emails are coming from. Your name or company name should be included in the “from” field and your logo and colors should be used throughout the email design. Be sure to remind people how your subscribers started receiving your newsletter. This will ensure that you won’t get complaints from subscribers.

Target Your Message
Once you have gotten them to open the email and read it, you need to make sure you have compelling content. Great content makes your audience feel like the information you’re providing is specifically catered to them. Don’t toot your own horn in these messages, but instead educate them. Wow them with your knowledge and they will keep coming back for more.
